Former Hornet football standout Dannie Walker begins his first season as the strength and conditioning coach for the Sacramento State women’s basketball program. Walker is USAW certified and has spent the past four years as a personal trainer.

A 1999 graduate of Sacramento State with a B.S. in kinesiology (exercise science concentration), Walker has spent the past two seasons as the secondary coach at Elk Grove High School.

The Salinas, Calif., native also spent one year (1999) as an assistant coach for the Sacramento State football team.

Prior to his stint as an assistant at Sacramento State, Walker starred for two years as the team’s starting corner back in 1997-98. Walker received all-Big Sky Conference honors both seasons as a Hornet and is tied for fifth all-time in school history with four career interceptions. Walker was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week in 1998 after recording four tackles and returning an interception 35 yards for a touchdown in the Hornets’ 38-21 victory at Northern Arizona.

Recruited as a running back out of Hartnell College in Salinas, Walker combined to record 99 tackles, four interceptions, 14 pass-breakups and two fumble recoveries in just two seasons. During his senior year, he also spent time returning punts and kicks, amassing 224 all-purpose yards.

Walker, who is single and resides in Sacramento, is currently working on his master’s in sports performance.
