Vicki Kockinis (1975-77) - Excerpts from a Sacramento Bee obituary (2/11/07): "Vicki Jan McDermott, who was as versatile athletically as she was accomplished and committed to family and friends, died early Thursday from complications of cancer. She was 53. McDermott, the wife of longtime Bee sports department staffer Mark McDermott, was in her 10th day of post-bone marrow transplant treatment at Stanford Medical Center when she died in her sleep. A 1972 Elk Grove High School graduate, Vicki Kockinis excelled in track and field when Title IX was just coming to form. McDermott played basketball and softball at Sacramento State, where she graduated in 1977. Throughout the 1970s and '80s, McDermott was a standout shortstop for seven softball teams that reached national tournaments. She was inducted into the Greater Sacramento Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1988. McDermott obtained a teaching credential and coached one year of varsity basketball at Roseville High in the late 1970s before landing a state job, in which she worked for 26 years."

Colleen Matsuhara (1971-73) - Currently the head women's basketball coach at West Los Angeles Community College. Has a company called Musabi and Associates which puts on basketball clinics for girls and adult women. Matsuhara served as an assistant for CSU Fullerton (1975-1977) before joining UCLA's staff under the legendary Billie Moore (1978-80) during which the Bruins won the AIAW national championship. She then became the head coach at Nebraska (1979-1983). In 1982 she was an assistant coach for the gold-medal winning US Junior National Team. From 1983-1985, she was an Assistant Athletic Director at UCLA. In 1984 she was appointed the Secretariat of Basketball for the Los Angeles Olympic Games. She assisted Jody Conradt at Texas 1986-1989. In 1987 she was assistant for the gold-medal winning Pan Am Team. In 1991 she was an assistant at Long Beach State. 1991-1995 she served as an on-court head coach for the US Olympic Festival. From 1992-1997 she was the head coach at UC Irvine (59-109) where she was named Big West Coach of the Year in 1995 after UCI won the conference tournament. Matsuhara was the color analyst for UCLA radio broadcasts 1998-2000. She spent two years as an assistant for the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA (1998-1999). She was inducted into the Sac City College Hall of Fame in 1999. Following that, she was an assistant at USC for two years. Played a role in the movie Love & Basketball and trained lead actress Sanaa Lathan. She also helped train the actors for the movie Juwanna Mann. An oral history given by her mother is part of Sac State's Japanese American Archival Collection.
